About Coach Mark

Mark grew up playing tournaments throughout Northern California and played #1 singles at Woodside High School. He went on to USC, where he served as a hitting partner and team manager for the Division I men's tennis program. After college, he spent time helping train a touring professional, including a stint at the 2017 US Open. For the past decade, he's coached private lessons for kids and adults of every age and level — with a sharp eye for technical detail and fixing the holes in a player's game. Depending on the day and time, he has access to private courts in Atherton and Woodside, and he also coaches at Stanford University. Otherwise, he works with players on public courts around Menlo Park, Palo Alto, and Mountain View.

"Purity of ball strike is what I prioritize. I see a lot of players with strokes that look technically correct, but they're missing that feel and purity of contact with the ball — which forces them to muscle the stroke instead. Most players rely on far too much muscle rather than focusing on smoothness and purity of contact. I focus on feel, smoothness, and purity of contact so your strokes produce effortless power and heaviness on the ball."
